Robert Zemckis directs this sci fi film about Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) who is sent back to 1955 by accident in a time machine invented by his mad scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). McFly must make sure that his teenage parents meet and fall in love- so he can go back to the future!
This has always been one of my all time favourite films and is a particular programme to put on tv for that lazy Sunday afternoon and generally one where you can sit down and watch it time and time again.
A criticism of mine towards this film is the fact that it is very Americanised and reinforces how women are often invisible in sci fi films (Claudia Wells who plays Marty’s girlfriend Jennifer only appears in the beginning and end of the movie). I also find the other two sequels are at times quite tiresome and cannot live up to the original.
Generally good acting and a quirky story.
My rating: 4.5/5
