Look Daddy, Teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings
Franks Capra directs this sweet film about George Bailey (James Stewart) who wishes ‘he had never been born’ after severe money losses drive him to suicide. After several prayers made by the townspeople, an angel named Clarence (Henry Travers) is summoned to make him realise what life would really be like if he had never been born and how different things might have been.
Donna Reid (who played Mary Hatch) and Todd Karns (playing George’s brother Harry Bailey) are the amongst the amazing supporting cast in this film. It is filled with sentimentality, a heart-warming sense of comfort that you can return to again and again. It may be interesting to note that frequently Capra’s films puts the female characters on a pedastole as either good woman (in this case Mary) and the bad woman (Violet).
My only real criticism about it is also a bit ‘cheesy’ at times .
What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll give you the moon, Mary.
