And that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
Tom Shadyac directs this comedy about reporter Bruce Nolan (played by Jim Carrey) who insists he should get the prized position as news anchorman but is rivalled by co-worker Evan Baxter (played by Steve Carell) for the position. After getting dismissed from the station he complains that God (Morgan Freeman) has made his life unfair. However, when he is given God’s powers he realises just how difficult it can be to ‘run the world.’
This film has been a personal favourite of mine since its release when I was 11 years old. The film has a light hearted, non judgemental view of religion and provides good advice about improving one’s life and to not take things for granted.
I especially love Morgan Freeman’s performance as God and the part when Bruce messes up Evan’s news report. Jennifer Aniston is also good in her supporting role as Grace, Bruce’s loving girlfriend.
Overall, a good film.
Smite me, oh mighty Smiter!
