The Flintstones (1994)

Brian Levant directed this comedy film based on the Hanna Barbara cartoon series of the same name. Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) lends his best friend Barney Rubble (Rick Moranis) money so he and his wife Bettie (Rosie O’Donnell) can adopt Bam bam. During an aptitude test, Barney switches his aptitude test with Fred with disastrous results. Within Slate International (where Fred and Barney work) the CEO Cliff Vandercave (Kyle Maclaclan) and his secretary Miss Stone (Halle Berry) discuss plants to swindle the company of its vast fortune.

Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with this film. It had very comical elements but as a 90s kid who grew up watching the cartoon it seemed a disappointment. John Goodman and the rest of the cast did their best, but I think in part it was let down by the poor script.

The late Elizabeth Taylor played Fred Flintstone’s mother in law Pearl Slaghoople.

Yabba dabba doo!
