‘Help me, I’m poor’
Paul Feig directed this chick flick which charts the battle between bridesmaid Annie (Kirsten Wiig) her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) who is getting married and the other band of bridesmaids Helen (Rose Byrne) , Megan (Melissa McCarthy) Becca (Ellie Kemper) and Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey). In the midst of all the wedding preparation Annie’s life falls apart around her.
Having got married in August, thankfully nothing as chaotic as what happened in the film happened with my sisters and I who were my bridesmaids. However, watching this again since getting married I could really relate to the amount of stress involved in wedding with the planning etc. The film is good and has a feel good factor when feeling low and never fails to make me laugh. I do feel however, it was a bit cliched at times.
My favourite character had to be Melissa McCarthys character Megan as she didn’t care about what people thought of her. She was the one who gave Annie a reality check during one of the penultimate scenes of the film and told her to toughen up.
Overall, a marvellous feel good film.
